We can only imagine the job of the casting director for Cable and Network Television. The intensity of those looking for a future in front of the cameras has been increased with so many different programs on the TV. Everything from Reality Shows to News Oriented shows need to have compelling and watchable talent and just reusing the same people over and over does nothing for the programs. As somebody with little or no experience, getting the foot in the door can still be a process. Hiring an Agent can be a process that is a Catch 22 as most agents want to represent somebody that already has experience.

The Networks and Producers have realized that they need talent and have turned to many sources to find that pool of available and ready on-air host, contenstants and others, The World Wide Web.

Many Net users are now getting that break with a new form of social networking. We have seen this take place with companies such as Disney which recently asked visitors to the Career Builder site to apply for the job as Disney Chief Magic Official. The applicant had to fill out a questionnaire on why they would be great for the CMO position as it would involve surprising visitors at the theme parks with such once in a life time chances as a night in Walt Disney's Suite or getting a chance to see areas that the general public didn't get to see. With this application a prospect would need to upload a: 60 sec video casting them for the position. With the videos, the numbers were streamlined down to 20 and then the public would be able to vote on who should be the CMO! Taking the cues of shows like American Idol, this has proven to be a great way to find hidden talent.

Screen Capture of GotCast.ComA New fastly growing popular website called GotCast is offering many different chances for different projects and one of them that caught my eye is for the Comcast owned G4TechTV channel. This is a cable channel geared at the computer game user and features such shows as Attack of the Show featuring Tucson's Zack Selwyn and the popular X-Play. A recent casting project for GotCast is to find "Gamer Girl" who will be a regular on G4TechTV. The casting process was asking visitors to register and then vote for who they think should be Gamer Girl. We talked with StarSlay3r, a 25 year old from Pasadena California who was in the top running and finds the GotCast site as a great way to have fun, connect with others and get seen by Casting Agents in the business.

We talked with the founder of GotCast, Wil Schroter, on the idea behind the site, just how receptive the industry has been to it and other ways using GotCast that you can be seen by casting agents and show producers.
