Garmin Nuvi 200 Getting Lost is a thing of the past.
Andy Taylor
Sometimes I like to have the excuse to get lost. Hoping on the motorcycle or getting in the car and getting “lost” can be adventurous and relaxing. There are those times when it really is therapeutic. With gas prices where they are and life seemingly moving faster, getting lost doesn’t seem to have the time to happen as frequently. A great way to keep on track and help in staying on course or even safely getting lost is a product from Garmin, the Nuvi 200.
For those not familiar with Garmin, the company grew from a handful of engineers in 1989 to a worldwide company with a top notch reputation for dependable and stylish devices for global positioning uses. The idea was to create a product that could be used in Aviation, vehicles, on the water, while hiking, during fitness and generally have an ease of use for the consumer and general user.
GPS devices have come a long way since 1989 and while we have seen changes in features, we have also seen the changes in cost of ownership which has made this technology extremely affordable. The Garmin Nuvi 200 is a great example of the changes in technology as well as price. Coming in at around $212, the Garmin Nuvi 200 provides real time data to the 48 lower United States, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Other international maps are available with the devices and the full listing can be found on the Garmin Website. For those that chose the 48 lower states, they can always purchase additional maps based on where they are traveling.
The Garmin Nuvi 200 is extremely easy to use and is available in both Classic Silver as well as pink. Turning on the unit is done with a power switch at the top of the device which presents the user with either a map view to show a location they are in or a Where To button where the user can simply touch the screen and plot out a course. Vocal Turn by turn directions are clear and audible on the device.
A great example of the benefits of the Garmin Nuvi 200 was Sunday this week my wife and I travelled from Tucson to pick up our daughter at the Phoenix International Airport. On the way, we decided to find a coffee shop for a quick cup of java. My wife selected the menu button at the bottom of the bright 320 x 240 QVGA screen; she was then presented with another menu, Address, Points of Interest, Recently Found and Favorites. She chose Points of Interest where she was then presented with another menu to which she chose food. We located a coffee shop and found it easily with the Nuvi 200 helping out. We also had piece of mind as getting back on track to the airport would not be a problem as all we had to do was select the Airport as a destination and the Garmin Nuvi 200 would plot a course for us based on our location. If you type in a specific address, the Garmin Nuvi 200 can also help you locate that route as well. We also liked that with the Nuvi 200, the Voice Directions will even tell you what side of the street the location you are seeking is.
Trip information on the Garmin is displayed easily with estimated arrival time, speed, and distance to the next turn. Users can zoom in and zoom out on the map as well to see nearby highways and landmarks. The unit ships with a Windshield and dashboard mount as well as a car charger for use while cruising down the highway. If traveling to California or Minnesota, it’s important to note that these states do not allow Suction Mounts on windshields while the car is in operation. For safety, it’s important to pre program the Nuvi 200 or pull over safely to adjust any settings.
The Garmin Nuvi 200 is compact and can also be removed from the car and taken with the user on foot. This is very helpful in large cities. A full charge can give the user about 5 hours of use. The Garmin Nuvi also features a memory card slot for SD cards which can be loaded with photos and then presented in a slide show. If you want to have some fun with your Nuvi 200, Custom vehicles to represent your vehicle on the map can be downloaded from the Garmin Garage. Users can also have some fun with pirates and see a great demonstration the company did with the Launch of Pirates of Caribbean at Worlds End at the beginning of the year. http://www.atmapsend.com/ .
