We get excited every time a new release of Sony Vegas hits the shelves because it's always accompanied by vast enhancements and new features in not only video production but also audio production and final output. The latest version from Sony Creative Software, Sony Vegas 8.0 continues to deliver on features and functionality. Times have changed since the days of linear editing and with the Sony Vegas 8.0 suite, the technology to produce high quality video and audio at a reasonable cost with Non Linear editing is now possible. With Sony Vegas 8.0, as with previous version, solutions are available for the Consumer/Prosumer Video producer as well as the Prosumer/Professional Video Producer.
One of the softwares new features is in the compatibility with the most recent OS release from Microsoft, Windows Vista. Previous versions did not work with the Operating System and we are happy to see the support. Sony Creative Software has also developed an affordable upgrade path for versions found even before Vegas 7.0. This High End Video Production suite for the prosumer not only builds on ease of use but also new features such as ProType titling. Many users have desired a richer experience with graphics added to the video production, ProType titling adds control and more customizing of the titles in a production. Professional features of the Sony Vegas 8.0 Software program include the ability to arrange video and audio events on a timeline. Users to previous versions will find improved HDV, SDI and XDCAM support. Cinescore plug-in support is also available for the user to easily create custom soundtracks, no royalty issues, for productions with the Cinescore program. Punch in audio recording and 5.1 surround mixing is available with the Sony Vegas 8.0 software.
For transistion scenes on the timeline, Vegas Pro 8 features over 190 video effects and 175 variations of transistions that can easily change scenes from shot to shot. Along the line of changing scenes is a new feature for multicamera type shoots. For last years CES show we shot the video segments with two cameras, applied the audio track from the radio broadcast to the matched up shots with the video and then placed them along the time line. When we were ready to render the production, we simply took out a layer manually and applied a small fade to the lower layer. It took a while to accomplish but gave the viewer the impression that it was shot with a crew on hand and Technical Director for transitioning between cameras. So it seems others were doing the same technique and Sony listened to those wanting the ability to select the source when creating the render and have added MultiCamera Editing as a feature that can now save a great deal of time. These are just a couple of features that have us going deeper in Sony Vegas 8.0 and to find out more, check out Michael Bryant from Sony Creative sharing the other great new and enhanced features of the program. Affordable upgrades and a Free Download Trial is available as well.
